Corn and good cheer were in the air when The Child Advocacy Program (CAP) hosted a Corn Toss Tournament and Barbeque, August 17, 2013, at the Red House, Cassadaga, NY.
Chautauqua County resident Mr. Stephen Wickmark formulated the fundraising idea after attending a similar event in West Virginia. Mr. Wickmark invited the CAP Board of Directors to promote and organize the activity, offering his property as the venue. The event was also made possible by Mr. David Messinger, CEO, and employees of Colecraft Commercial Furnishings who built and donated 10 sets of corn toss boards for the event.
An array of items was auctioned including the Corn Toss boards. The featured auction item was a framed American Flag donated by Col. Mark Bennett. The flag was flown in combat over Afghanistan on board a B-1 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on May 3, 2004. Col. Mark Bennett was the Aircraft Commander for the 23-hour mission, the longest B-1 combat sortie in history. The highest bid on the flag was entered by Rich and Karen Connelly, who then donated the flag to the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280 where it is now proudly displayed.
